The world’s largest Bitcoin conference opened yesterday in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s expected to be one of the most important conferences in crypto history, with an impressive lineup of speakers, side events, and a keynote address from former president and current candidate Donald Trump.
The Bitcoin Conference is hosted by BTC Media, the company behind Bitcoin Magazine , and is held annually in Miami, Florida. This year, however, the conference moved to Nashville, BTC Media’s hometown and the epicenter of the thriving Bitcoin activity in the United States. Bitcoin Park, a coworking space dedicated to Bitcoin enthusiasts that hosts monthly events for developers, politicians, and regular enthusiasts, is an example of the grassroots Bitcoin movement sweeping the city. Like Miami, residents here subscribe to Bitcoin’s libertarian values, such as privacy and financial freedom.
While the conference officially kicked off yesterday, side events and standalone conferences have also kicked off at the beginning of the week. The Litecoin Summit took place on July 24-25, with the theme "Bitcoin from Silver to Gold", and was attended by well-known figures in the Litecoin community such as founder Charlie Lee . Other events included the Mining Summit, several Ordinals meetups, and the " Satoshi Speakeasy". These events show that Bitcoin's developer community is growing, they are focused on creating tokenized assets on the chain, and they are more enthusiastic than ever to ensure the security of the network through mining, even after the Bitcoin halving has significantly reduced their profits.
In addition to the conference floor, attendees can also find many Bitcoin-related companies looking for partners, new users, and opportunities to establish themselves as an important part of Bitcoin infrastructure. A new documentary, "God Bless Bitcoin," will have its world premiere at the conference, featuring well-known industry leaders such as Mark Cuban , Michael Saylor , and Anthony Pompliano .
There were several speeches on the first day of the conference that deserved our attention. At 4 p.m., keynote speaker Robert F. Kennedy spoke about his belief in Bitcoin and discussed how Bitcoin was part of his presidential campaign platform. At 3:30 p.m., Snowden, the famous whistleblower of the Prism program, also delivered a keynote speech, explaining the necessity of Bitcoin as an alternative to government-controlled currency. At Bitpush, we will summarize other important speeches in the recap of the first and second days, including speeches by ARK founder Cathie Wood and MicroStrategy Chairman Michael Saylor.
On Saturday, Donald Trump will be the event on everyone’s mind as he delivers the keynote address at 2 p.m. He’s not the only politician who will be speaking, though, as other speakers include Senator Tim Scott, John Deaton, Marsha Blackburn, Representative Ro Khanna, and Representative Wiley Nickel.
On top of that, Senator Cynthia Lummis, who is known for her support for cryptocurrencies, is expected to announce legislation regarding a strategic reserve of Bitcoin sometime this weekend, possibly during her talk with Tim Scott at 3pm this afternoon. The legislation would require the Federal Reserve to hold Bitcoin like it holds gold and foreign currencies to protect against any adverse events for the U.S. dollar. If passed, this would be the most significant development related to Bitcoin this year, as it would legitimize Bitcoin under one of the most powerful governments in the world. Some expect this to set off a digital arms race among companies accumulating Bitcoin. Additionally, there is speculation that Trump will support the legislation or announce his own legislation in a speech, which would make him the most pro-crypto candidate.
Trump’s speech will likely include references to recent assassination attempts, cryptocurrency policies around supporting self-custody and mining rights, and not creating a central bank digital currency. This will be the first time Trump or any former president has given a speech on Bitcoin, and the implications and consequences could change the industry forever.
Unsurprisingly, this year’s conference was highly anticipated. From the number of speeches by politicians to the general growth in the Bitcoin L2 space, it was a sign that now is the best time to be a Bitcoin holder.
