The push to consider Peters mainly comes from trade unions, and his joining may strengthen Harris' votes in Michigan. Peters is interested in the position and is currently trying to win the support of his Democratic colleagues for his vice presidential campaign. According to the nonprofit political advocacy organization Stand With Crypto, Peters is "strongly opposed to cryptocurrency," noting that the senator co-sponsored the Digital Asset Money Laundering Act in 2023, but also mentioned that he supports the repeal of SAB-121, which requires banks to hold digital assets on behalf of customers and record these assets as liabilities on their balance sheets.
