According to Mars Finance, Judge Jia M. Cobb of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled that the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission exceeded its statutory authority in attempting to prevent prediction market Kalshi from offering contracts tied to the 2024 U.S. election.
The judge said in an order issued Thursday that Karsh's contract did not involve "illegal activity or gambling."
