Recently, a user on X shared about their decision to quit their job at the Binance trading platform, citing their attendance at the Devcon 2024 conference in Thailand.
Is it a conflict of interest or is Binance being too rigid?
According to BeInCrypto's report, the story was shared by a user named Ross. According to Ross's sharing, he started working at Binance in 2023 in the Customer Service department. After initial sharing about the work environment at Binance, Ross said that he has now lost his job and it seems he did not receive a satisfactory explanation from the Human Resources and Internal Audit departments of this trading platform.
Accordingly, Ross said he had applied for leave to attend the Devcon 2024 conference in Thailand as an MC. However, somehow, Binance's HR department discovered this and they said that this caused a conflict of interest and that Ross had violated the company's policy.
Despite Ross's explanations about the widespread nature of this conference and his commitment not to mention Binance or use the brand in any capacity, Binance still warned that if he continued to attend Devcon 2024, he would be fired. Faced with the increasing pressure from the company's HR and Audit departments, Ross decided to still attend Devcon and voluntarily resigned. Although he lost his job, Ross still believes this was the right decision for him at this time.
In the comments section of Ross's tweet, the former CEO of the Binance platform, CZ, spoke up to explain this Binance policy. According to him, since he was CEO, he had issued a regulation that Binance employees, unless they were in a public-facing role, were not allowed to attend public events (as Binance employees), give talks, become advisors to other projects, or have side jobs... He explained that besides causing conflicts of interest, this could also pose risks of data leaks and potential security issues for the attendees.
However, in the face of this incident, many members of the community believe that Ross's choice to voluntarily resign was reasonable. One person said that this incident somewhat reflects the corruption in the current senior leadership team since CZ left Binance to serve a 4-month prison sentence. Some even mocked that Binance does not really understand the culture in the cryptocurrency market and therefore is not suitable for this community.
