On December 2, an article in The Wall Street Journal hinted that if Trump returns to the White House, the US SEC may relax its legal battle against cryptocurrency CEX. Although Trump has not yet revealed the choice for the next SEC chairman, it is rumored that after Gary Gensler's resignation, multiple contenders are vying for the position.
The next SEC chairman may come from a group of experienced regulators and legal heavyweights, each bringing unique expertise. Paul Atkins served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008 and currently leads the financial advisory work at Patomak Global Partners, making him a top contender. In addition, since 2022, Mark Uyeda has been closely watched for his pro-cryptocurrency stance, which is in line with Trump's regulatory views.
Former Acting Comptroller of the Currency Brian Brooks, former SEC General Counsel Robert Stebbins, and legal heavyweights Richard Farley and Norm Champ have also emerged as strong contenders.
