Jen-Hsun Huang gave an interview to Wired, discussing his busy schedule traveling around the world over the past year and Nvidia's global push for Sovereign AI. During the interview, Huang was in Bangkok, Thailand, where he would meet with 56 startup teams in a single day, feeling the vibrant startup atmosphere of Bangkok. He mentioned that he had attended an international school, Rudy International, in Thailand when he was 5 years old, and now feels very familiar being back in Thailand.
Huang particularly noted that on this trip to Thailand, he has fully felt their understanding of the importance of Sovereign AI, realizing that AI data is part of a nation's assets, and that they can integrate and analyze social and cultural knowledge through AI cloud databases, generative AI, and big data, fully utilizing it across various fields and feeding it back to the people of the country.

ToggleWhat is Sovereign AI?
Sovereign AI refers to a country developing AI infrastructure through hardware, software, data, labor, and telecommunications networks. Investing in Sovereign AI can simultaneously control data and develop national applications in areas such as transportation, communications, business, entertainment, and healthcare. Many countries and state-owned telecom operators have collaborated to develop AI cloud databases, fully utilizing AI data in fields such as education, healthcare, legal affairs, and fintech.
Sovereign AI can promote cultural and linguistic communication
Sovereign AI covers the infrastructure of physical and data assets, and development teams can train large language models on the AI data, helping people using different dialects communicate and increasing ethnic inclusiveness.
NVIDIA has been promoting the AI Nations program globally since 2019, supporting the development of AI ecosystems and employee training.
Countries around the world are investing in Sovereign AI
Scaleway, headquartered in France, is building Europe's strongest cloud-native AI supercomputer. The Swiss government-owned Swisscom Group recently announced that it will build Italy's first NVIDIA DGX-powered supercomputer with its Italian subsidiary Fastweb.
The Indian government has also announced a Sovereign AI initiative to promote workforce development. The Tata Group in India is building a large-scale AI infrastructure supported by the NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper superchip.
Singapore is cultivating a series of Sovereign AI projects, including upgrading the National Supercomputing Center (NSCC) with NVIDIA H100 GPUs. NVIDIA Hopper architecture GPUs are also being used to accelerate operations for Singtel, Singapore's telecommunications company.
Japan is also actively developing Sovereign AI, collaborating with NVIDIA to support the development of large-scale language models for the Japanese language and using AI to enhance natural disaster defense. SoftBank and NVIDIA are working together to establish a generative AI platform for 5G and 6G as well as a distributed AI network.
