Musk’s xAI completes $6 billion in Series C financing! Industry giants such as a16z, BlackRock, NVIDIA and AMD are helping

Musk's new AI startup xAI announced on 12/23 the completion of a Series C funding round, raising a staggering $6 billion, attracting major institutions and strategic partners, including a16z, BlackRock, NVIDIA, AMD, and other renowned venture capitalists and tech giants.

Global Venture Capitalists and Tech Giants Support

xAI stated that this funding round was participated by top-tier investment institutions, including a16z (Andreessen Horowitz), Blackrock, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Kingdom Holdings, Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed, Morgan Stanley, as well as strategic partners NVIDIA and AMD.

xAI said that the $6 billion raised will be used to expand infrastructure, scale up the Colossus supercomputer in size and performance, accelerate AI product development, and build AI systems beneficial to humanity.

From Supercomputer Colossus to Multimodal AI Models

Since the Series B funding, xAI has made diverse advancements in technology and infrastructure, and is currently training a new large language model Grok 3. Here are some of xAI's notable products:

1. Colossus Supercomputer: Equipped with 100,000 NVIDIA Hopper GPUs, it was delivered to Musk in just 122 days and is now fully operational. The scale will be further expanded to 200,000 GPUs.
2. Grok 2 Large Language Model: Launched a language model with cutting-edge reasoning capabilities, enhancing the understanding and generation abilities of multimodal AI models.
3. xAI API: Opened an application programming interface (API) with functionalities including text generation, code generation, visual processing, and external system integration.
4. Aurora Image Generation Model: Recently released, it aims to strengthen the understanding, editing, and generation capabilities of multimodal AI, bringing more possibilities for application development, but has since been taken offline.
