Linea, an Ethereum Layer2 network developed by the ConsenSys team, announced the establishment of the Linea Association in November last year to promote the decentralization of Linea, and also previewed that it will launch the Token Generation Event (TGE) to release the $LINEA token at the end of the first quarter of 2025, which has raised high expectations among the Linea airdrop community.
Linea Delays Token Launch: TGE Will Not Happen in Q1
However, the Linea Association officially confirmed on February 21 that it will delay the token launch, confirming that Linea's TGE will not take place as scheduled in the first quarter.
The team's reason is that the technical and design work, including community collaboration, is still ongoing, and these things need to be done well to align with Linea's plans and the long-term interests of its community. But they emphasized that the current preparation work is in the final stages, and they will soon share some truly exciting updates.
We can confirm that the Linea TGE will not happen in the first quarter. Once the timeline is finalized, we will publicly announce it to maintain transparency for the entire community.
Linea Announces TGE Progress:
Linea's decision to delay the token launch immediately sparked dissatisfaction in the community, with complaints that "if you don't release it now, the opportunity will be gone." To appease the community, Linea held an AMA yesterday (26th) to provide the latest progress on the TGE work.
According to a tweet by Linea ambassador zETHerka.eth summarizing the AMA, Linea discussed some perspectives on the TGE, sybils, and the minimum LXP threshold. The key points are as follows:
1. Data analysis is nearing completion after deleting sybil addresses. The official snapshot has not yet been taken, but the LXP and LXP-L values remain unchanged.
Note, LXP is the score obtained by participating and exploring the Dapps in the entire Linea ecosystem, while LXP-L is the score obtained by providing liquidity in the entire Linea ecosystem.
2. ConsenSys follows strict communication rules, and the decentralization of Linea is a complex process with bureaucratic hurdles. The team has not set a timeline, but is working to provide clarity on the TGE and token distribution.
3. Due to legal and operational constraints, the exact TGE date cannot be provided, but they plan to release the token economics in the coming weeks. It is expected that there will be a minimum LXP threshold, but the specific value has not yet been determined.
4. LXP and LXP-L are important, but multi-chain activities are also valued. Possible recalculation formula: Airdrop received = Held LXP x Dencun Upgrade Pre-Gas Modifier.
Wallets with <1500 LXP are similar to sybils and may be deleted. Long-term activity across multiple chains (not just Linea) may be a key factor.
5. Linea will be different from other L2s because it is a ConsenSys project. ConsenSys has played a key role in the development of Ethereum (Infura, MetaMask).
6) Priorities: a. Release token economics >> b. Announce airdrop criteria >> c. Release the checker.
First Airdrop Directly Related to Consensys
As an Ethereum zk-rollup L2 developed by the ConsenSys team, the parent company of the Metamask wallet, Linea is seen as the first airdrop opportunity directly related to the Web3 infrastructure giant ConsenSys, as MetaMask has not yet issued its own token.
Since Linea went live on the mainnet in 2023, it has attracted a lot of community attention, and although Linea recently announced a delay in the TGE, it is still one of the most anticipated airdrops in 2025, and its subsequent potential is worth watching.
