If approved, the full Senate will hold a final vote. Atkins, a former SEC commissioner, is a supporter of digital assets and previously founded a financial compliance consulting firm in Washington. He is expected to continue the crypto-friendly regulatory stance promoted by the Trump administration, replacing former SEC chair Gary Gensler, who has been criticized for his "enforcement-style regulation" of the crypto industry. The hearing will also include the nomination of Jonathan Gould as the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), an agency responsible for regulating U.S. national banks and crucial for crypto firms' efforts to gain banking access and stablecoin issuance oversight.
