On Friday Eastern Time, the three major U.S. stock indexes fell sharply, with the S&P 500 dropping 5.97%, marking its largest single-day decline since March 2020; the index fell 9.08% this week, its largest weekly decline since March 2020. The Nasdaq fell 5.82%, dropping over 20% from its historical highest closing record, confirming entry into a technical bear market. The Dow Jones fell 5.50%, closing over 10% below its historical highest closing record, confirming entry into a correction period.
