A desperate man went live on a website, showing self-harm to his audience, hoping to attract virtual currency tips through shocking behavior. This familiar scenario is from Netflix's latest Black Mirror season, and the storyline seems to be inspired by Solana meme coin platform Pump.Fun. The episode is titled "Common People", where a financially struggling husband begins to perform increasingly extreme self-harm during livestreams to earn tokens and pay for his wife's escalating medical expenses.
Many users on X immediately noticed the new Black Mirror episode's similarity to Pump.Fun, with @CreepaphX saying, "No way, the first episode is basically about Pump Fun".

The story sounds very similar to a series of bizarre behaviors related to Pump.Fun meme coins last year. In the summer, an emerging meme coin creator named Mikol attempted to boost his Dare coin by livestreaming self-immolation, resulting in third-degree burns without generating any sales (warning: do not imitate dangerous behaviors). Netflix's Black Mirror writers created the fictional livestreaming site "Dum Dummies", seemingly mocking the outrageous traffic-seeking behaviors on Pump.Fun.
