PANews reported on April 24 that according to Bloomberg, the European Union issued its first fine under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), imposing fines of 500 million and 200 million euros on Apple and Meta, totaling approximately 700 million euros (about $798 million). The EU accused Apple of preventing developers from guiding users to purchase services outside the App Store, and Meta's ad-free subscription service was also deemed non-compliant. Both companies must make corrections within 60 days, or face further penaltiesalties. The decision came at a time when the Trump administration strongly criticized EU tech regulation, and the fine amount was also relatively moderate than expected.
