Ethereum Foundation Executive Director Clarifies: Pectra Upgrade Has Nothing to Do with the Controversial EOF, the Former Will Be Released on Schedule

Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, Tomasz K. Stańczak, released an important clarification about the EOF debate, stating that while EOF is controversial, there is a key misunderstanding that needs to be addressed: the current EOF discussion is unrelated to the Pectra upgrade scheduled for May 7th. The Pectra upgrade does not include EOF and does not intend to include EOF. All aspects of Pectra will be released as planned on May 7th. Previously, CoinDesk reported that the Ethereum "EVM Object Format (EOF)" improvement proposal had been incorporated into the Pectra hard fork, expected to be implemented later this year or early next year. The EOF proposal will make a series of minor changes to upgrade the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). EOF will make smart contracts more developer-friendly, especially for those building decentralized applications using Solidity or Vyper programming languages, but may potentially disrupt existing smart contracts. Developers have added new versions, allowing DApp builders to choose which version of the EVM to use when deploying code.
