Ripple commits 25 million USD in RLUSD to support teachers in the United States. The company has partnered with DonorsChoose and Teach for America, two major non-profit organizations in the education sector.
Technically, this donation is not entirely Ripple's stablecoin, but the exact ratio is unclear. A post from DonorsChoose suggests that 10 million USD might be in cash.
Ripple Allocates RLUSD for Education
Teacher Appreciation Week is beginning in the United States, and the risk of education budget cuts is increasing. In this context, Ripple sees an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution with RLUSD, its new stablecoin.
According to a press release from the company, their 25 million USD grant will help teachers in several important ways.
"Proud to support teachers and classrooms in the US through Ripple's 25 million USD commitment to DonorsChoose and Teach For America. Primarily executed through RLUSD, this is a meaningful example of how stablecoins can create real-world impact—starting in the classroom," stated Eric van Miltenburg, Ripple's Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.
Clearly, this donation does not seem to be for blockchain-related education. In the short term, Ripple's press release states that RLUSD will support versatile educational resources across public schools.
Later, partners will also "support new initiatives focused on financial education," but this appears to be a longer-term goal.
DonorsChoose's announcement prominently acknowledged Ripple's RLUSD contribution but also mentioned Good Morning America, a television program, and Eli Manning, a famous football player.
In other words, it may not be easy to prioritize financial education and other economic subjects if other major donors are not interested.
DonorsChoose also mentions a 10 million USD grant, not 25 million USD. Ripple's press release indicates that most of the grant will be made in RLUSD, but does not go into details. The non-profit organization may be pointing out that 10 million USD is the portion donated in cash.
In any case, this is not Ripple's first charitable donation using RLUSD. In January, the company committed 50,000 USD to fight wildfires in California, but 25 million USD is a much larger contribution.
The significant scale increase may reflect a greater focus on PR; for example, the company has publicly described RLUSD as compliant with upcoming stablecoin regulations.
Amid the SEC lawsuit being dismissed and optimism about XRP ETF, Ripple is gaining strong momentum. This RLUSD donation has received much praise from the cryptocurrency community and could enhance Ripple's reputation in the future.
As seen in the official post from DonorsChoose, many community members, even outside the cryptocurrency industry, are praising Ripple for their charitable efforts.
