On May 22, the New York jury found Braden John Karony, the former CEO of cryptocurrency company SafeMoon, guilty on all three serious criminal charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, money laundering, and telecommunications fraud. After a trial lasting approximately two weeks, the jury reached a verdict in less than a day.
Karony was accused of misappropriating millions of dollars for personal expenses during SafeMoon's market value surge. He was prosecuted alongside former Chief Technology Officer Thomas Smith and platform creator Kyle Nagy, with Smith turning into a key witness and Nagy reportedly having fled to Russia. Karony faces up to 45 years in prison.
