PANews reports on May 23rd that according to Bloomberg, Apple plans to release a smart glasses product by the end of 2026, equipped with a camera, microphone, and speakers, and capable of executing voice commands through Siri. The device will have functions such as environment analysis, making phone calls, playing music, real-time translation, and navigation, and is seen as a competitor to Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. Meanwhile, Apple has canceled the previously planned camera-equipped Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra for 2027, but is still developing camera-equipped AirPods. The report states that Apple's ultimate goal is to develop glasses with augmented reality (AR) display capabilities, though such devices will still take several years to develop.
The project is led by the Vision Products Group that developed Vision Pro, and is currently simultaneously advancing the headset's lightweight version and Mac-connected version. Apple also plans to launch its first foldable phone by the end of 2026 and open its large language model API to promote AI ecosystem development in the App Store.
