According to ChainCatcher and Reuters, Elon Musk's government efficiency department (Doge) team is promoting its AI chatbot Grok within the US federal government, raising concerns about privacy invasion and conflicts of interest.
Doge uses a modified version of Grok to analyze government data and generate reports. Reports suggest that Doge employees encouraged the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to use Grok without agency approval, though DHS denies facing pressure to adopt specific tools.
Experts warn that if Grok accesses sensitive government data, it may violate privacy and security regulations. Additionally, Musk's company xAI could potentially gain unfair advantages in federal contracts or misuse government data to improve its AI systems.
Doge's access to federal databases containing millions of Americans' personal information is being questioned, as federal regulations require strict authorization and oversight for data sharing.
