Mihailo Bjelic, co-founder of Polygon, just announced that he will withdraw from the project he once helped build.
"The project develops, the vision also changes – sometimes no longer aligned. I can no longer contribute to Polygon in the best way," Bjelic shared on X. However, he affirmed that he still believes in the current team and will always support the project.
Bjelic will leave his position at Polygon Labs and the governance board of Polygon Foundation. He was one of four founders of Matic Network (now Polygon) since 2017, along with Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal and Anurag Arjun.
Polygon is one of the prominent Layer 2 platforms of Ethereum, which has played a major role in research on zk and PoS consensus mechanism. At the end of 2024, Polygon will begin the plan to convert tokens from MATIC to POL at a 1:1 ratio to expand the application of native tokens in gas fees, staking and infrastructure like AggLayer.
Bjelic's withdrawal occurred about two years after Kanani and Arjun also left their executive roles at Polygon.
"Not just a co-founder, he is also a brother," Nailwal wrote on X. "From brainstorming sessions, whitepaper drafts to overnight strategic calls — he was an indispensable part of Polygon."
