DeLorean Launches Web3 Platform on Sui, Allowing Reservation and Transfer of Alpha 5 EV Purchase Rights via Non-Fungible Token.
The DeLorean automotive brand has just launched a breakthrough Web3 solution, enabling users to reserve and trade rights to purchase a high-end electric sports car through the Sui blockchain platform. This new system leverages Non-Fungible Token technology and smart contracts, completely replacing the traditional pre-order method in the automotive industry. DeLorean Motor Company, manufacturer of the legendary DMC-12, collaborated with technology company DRIVEN to deploy the platform for the limited edition Alpha 5 EV electric vehicle.
Each vehicle build slot is issued as a Non-Fungible Token, allowing owners not only to acquire future vehicle purchase rights but also to own a liquid digital asset that can be traded on the secondary market. All ownership and transaction histories are permanently and transparently recorded on the blockchain ledger. DeLorean simultaneously introduced its own trading platform, enabling collectors and investors to buy and sell Build Slot Non-Fungible Tokens using USDC stablecoin on the Sui network.
Beyond vehicle reservation rights, operational data and usage history are also recorded on the blockchain through the Flux Web3 protocol, including battery status, maintenance history, verified accidents, and accurate mileage. All of this aims to increase transparency, reduce fraud, and enhance asset value for owners.
Inheriting Legendary Legacy in the Web3 Era
DMC gained global fame through the DeLorean DMC-12 model launched in 1981, distinguished by its gull-wing doors, unpainted steel body, and appearance in the "Back to the Future" film series. The vehicle quickly became a cultural icon and rare collectible. Brand Director Cameron Wynne stated: "Blockchain application helps simplify vehicle trading on the secondary market, reduces speculation, increases reliability, and creates entirely new revenue models for both the brand and fan community."
DeLorean's initiative reflects the trend of applying blockchain to traditional industries. Previously, this technology had been successfully applied in managing long-standing Scottish whisky collections like The Glenlivet, verifying archaeological artifact origins, and certifying achievements in the aerospace industry. DeLorean's blockchain application for electric vehicle transactions could establish a new precedent for the automotive sector, especially as car manufacturers transition to electrification and seek innovative business models.
