On June 4, according to Yonhap News Agency, a source from the Korean diplomatic circle revealed that South Korea's president-elect Lee Jae-myung may make a phone call to US President Trump as early as that day.
The source stated that the governments of South Korea and the United States are coordinating a phone call between Lee Jae-myung and Trump in the late afternoon. The call is expected to be a ceremonial conversation primarily focused on Trump congratulating Lee Jae-myung on his inauguration and both sides reaffirming their cooperation intentions, but they may also exchange views on pending issues such as North Korea's nuclear program and tariffs.
They may also engage in principle discussions about a potential South Korea-US summit meeting. Diplomatic circles predict that, following the tradition of a new South Korean president visiting the US as soon as possible, a South Korea-US summit is likely to be held in the US between July and August. The leaders of the two countries may also have their first face-to-face meeting by attending the G7 summit in Canada from the 15th to 17th of this month, or the NATO summit in The Hague, Netherlands, from the 24th to 25th.
