The problems we observed: Module repetition and lack of standards
After several recent on-chain security incidents in the crypto industry, the entire Web3 community has once again directly focused on the old topic of "infrastructure security". Although technology continues to advance, we cannot avoid the reality that without unified standards and audit mechanisms, any "reinventing the wheel" basic modules could become potential risk sources.
Move is a language born for resources and security, and Aptos has always provided developers with an excellent chain-level experience through parallel execution and native upgrade capabilities. However, during our collaboration with numerous Aptos project teams, we repeatedly discovered a key shortcoming: the ecosystem lacks a reliable, reusable, and auditable public basic module library. Many teams independently implement and maintain their own permission controls, upgrade systems, and basic utility functions, which not only reduces efficiency but also weakens the overall security of chain-level applications.
We decided to take action: Movemaker and alcove jointly initiated
To address this underlying shortcoming, Aptos' official Chinese community Movemaker, in collaboration with alcove, Asia's first Move ecosystem developer organization, jointly launched a structured open-source initiative—Aptos Move Security and General Purpose Base Library Initiative.
The initiative aims to provide Aptos smart contract developers with a set of strictly audited, secure, modular, and easy-to-use standard components, thereby accelerating the development and maturation of the Aptos ecosystem. Movemaker has long served the Aptos Chinese developer community and understands local developers' actual needs; alcove has gathered a group of technical members with experience in Move underlying development, auditing, and toolchain construction, capable of laying a solid foundation for the development and governance of this base library.
The proposal has been launched on GitHub and is now open for collaborative development by all Aptos developers.

Next, we will introduce the goals, mechanisms, and participation methods of this initiative—hoping you are not just a reader, but also a collaborator.
We are innovatively redesigning based on Aptos
This initiative is a long-term, systematic open-source project targeting the entire Aptos development ecosystem. We are gathering resources, standardizing processes, and building mechanisms with only one purpose: to create a "golden standard library" for Aptos that is widely adopted, trusted, and audited, similar to OpenZeppelin for EVM.
In the EVM ecosystem, OpenZeppelin Contracts has been proven to effectively enhance security, accelerate development efficiency, and lower barriers. However, we deeply understand that Move and Aptos are not EVM's mirror images; they have fundamental differences in language paradigms, account models, state management, upgrade mechanisms, and execution architectures. Because of this, Move's resource-oriented model, bytecode verifier, formal verification support, and Aptos' parallel execution and native package upgrade mechanisms actually provide an excellent opportunity to build a base library with higher security and better performance.
Below is the complete proposal content, and we invite every Builder currently building on Aptos to participate deeply, and welcome you to spread this infrastructure concept.
What we have prepared: From funding to organization and mechanisms
· Startup Funding: Movemaker provides an initial $200,000 grant for:
o Development and maintenance of core modules.
o Professional security audit fees.
o Developer incentives and bounty programs.
o Documentation writing and community operations support.
o Necessary toolchain and infrastructure construction.
· Development Organization: alcove will lead the project, coordinate community development resources, and be responsible for process management, technical support, and security audits;
· Multi-party Resource Support: Various project teams, independent developers, and security audit companies will participate in the phased development, testing, and review of basic modules;
· Governance Mechanism: PR review, test validation, Move Prover verification, pre-audit, and bounty incentives will be executed transparently throughout the process.
What we want to build: Infrastructure foundation for the Move ecosystem
· Build Core Base Library: Develop a set of Move modules covering core functions such as access control, upgrade management tools, DeFi modules, and general utilities.
· Enhance Ecosystem Security: Utilize Move language's inherent security features (such as reentrancy prevention and strong typing) combined with rigorous testing, formal verification, and independent security audits to ensure the library's highest security.
· Promote Developer Adoption: Lower the Move language learning curve and attract more developers to the Aptos ecosystem by providing high-quality, easy-to-understand documentation, tutorials, and examples.
· Establish Community Co-building Model: Create an open, collaborative development process that encourages project teams, independent developers, and security audit companies to participate together, ensuring the library's quality, relevance, and sustainability.
· Accelerate Ecosystem Development: Provide a reliable foundation for Aptos dApp developers, accelerate innovation, reduce the cost of reinventing the wheel, and thus promote the prosperity of the Aptos ecosystem.
How to participate in co-building? Every developer can be a promoter
We believe that a truly trustworthy and reusable smart contract base library must be built collectively by the ecosystem. Therefore, this initiative is openly available to all Aptos developers—whether you come from a project team or are an independent creator, you can participate in co-building in an appropriate manner:
· How project teams can participate: If you are a development team of an existing project on Aptos, you can participate in core module development, testing, and integration, transforming the pitfalls and best practices you've encountered in actual business into ecosystem-wide reusable standard components. This not only enhances your project's security but also contributes to the entire ecosystem.
· Independent developers also have a stage: If you are a Move enthusiast or independent developer, we will continuously recruit module contributors through code challenges, bounty programs, and public task pools. alcove will provide comprehensive contribution guidelines, development documentation, and technical support to help you go from 0 to 1.
· Participation methods are simple and clear: All module development will be conducted openly on GitHub using a Pull Request (PR) mechanism. All code must pass automated testing and Move Prover verification and be merged after review by core contributors. Audit and version management mechanisms will also be simultaneously executed to ensure every line of code can withstand scrutiny.
What tools and resources will we provide?
To lower participation barriers and improve development efficiency, we will also build a comprehensive ecosystem of tools and support systems:
· Core Module Library: Including reusable components such as access control, module upgrades, DeFi basic logic, and security tools;
· Multi-language SDK: Supporting languages like TypeScript, Python, Rust, Go, simplifying on-chain operations;
· Standardized API: Providing more easily accessible on-chain data query and interaction interfaces for application developers;
· Developer Tool Support: Including VS Code plugins, CLI extensions, debugging tools, etc., to enhance coding experience;
· Project Templates and Example Codes: Ready-to-use template projects to help you quickly build your own applications.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced developer, if you care about Aptos' technological future, this base library and tool system will be an indispensable starting point for you.
Conclusion: The starting point of an ecosystem-level infrastructure
Building a Move open-source base library inspired by OpenZeppelin on Aptos is a project with long-term strategic value for the entire ecosystem. We will fully utilize Move language's advantages in resource security and strong typing, combined with Aptos platform's parallel execution and native upgrade capabilities, to create a safer, more efficient, and developer-friendly smart contract development environment for developers.
By combining OpenZeppelin's security rigor with Move/Aptos' technological innovation, this base library is expected to become the core foundation for Aptos dApp development, reducing repeated development costs, accelerating product iteration pace, and driving the ecosystem towards a more professional and robust direction.
The success of this open-source initiative is inseparable from the collective efforts of all Builders. We sincerely invite Aptos project teams, independent developers, and security experts to join in co-building and together refine a truly trustworthy, reusable, and auditable underlying standard. If you are building the future on Aptos, then this foundational library will also belong to you.
