StETH is an ETH derivative staked on Lido. Lido is a decentralized protocol that allows users to stake ETH and participate in Ethereum's consensus mechanism. Staking helps provide security for the Ethereum network under the Proof of Stake consensus mechanism, which is more energy-efficient and scalable.
Lido is an Ethereum liquid staking solution supported by multiple leading industry staking service providers. Its main advantage is that it allows users to participate in Ethereum's PoS consensus mechanism without a minimum staking amount. There are some drawbacks to staking on Ethereum, such as requiring at least 32 ETH to stake, tokens being locked for a period until the Shapella upgrade, and users facing slashing risks if validators misbehave or go offline.
