According to ChainCatcher, Elon Musk's AI company xAI is facing a legal lawsuit due to its use of gas turbines at the "The Colossus" data center in Memphis. The Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), representing the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), has sent a 60-day notice of intent to sue xAI, alleging violations of the Clean Air Act.
SELC points out that xAI has installed and operated at least 35 gas turbines over the past year without obtaining the necessary pre-construction or operational air permits. These devices could potentially emit over 2,000 tons of nitrogen oxides (NOx) annually, causing significant impacts on local air quality.
