According to ChainCatcher and Wired, OpenAI has poached 4 senior engineers from competitors Tesla, xAI, and Meta, including David Lau, the former vice president of software engineering at Tesla, who has joined the company's expansion team. This news was announced by OpenAI co-founder and expansion team lead Greg Brockman on Tuesday through an internal Slack message.
Joining David Lau at OpenAI are Uday Ruddarraju, former infrastructure engineering head at xAI and X, Mike Dalton, an infrastructure engineer at xAI, and Angela Fan, an AI researcher from Meta. Both Dalton and Ruddarraju previously worked at Robinhood. At xAI, Ruddarraju and Dalton were involved in building Colossus, a massive supercomputer consisting of over 200,000 GPUs.
