On July 9th, according to Korean media Digital Asset, Woori Bank, one of South Korea's top five commercial banks, has applied for a stablecoin trademark. This is the third trademark application case among Korean commercial banks following the National Bank of Korea and Hana Bank, with all major Korean financial holding companies now joining the stablecoin competition.
According to the Korea Intellectual Property Office's intellectual property information retrieval service on July 9th, Woori Bank applied for 12 stablecoin trademarks on July 7th, including "WKRW", "KRWOORI", "WONKR", and "CKRW", with intellectual property products covering cryptocurrency financial transaction businesses and cryptocurrency electronic transfer businesses. As a result, the five major financial holding groups - Shinhan Financial Group, KB Financial Group, Hana Financial Group, Agricultural Cooperative Financial Group, and Woori Financial Group - now hold stablecoin trademarks at their affiliated or holding company levels.
