According to ChainCatcher, citing Fortune, Google has reached a licensing agreement with coding startup Windsurf, ending OpenAI's $3 billion acquisition proposal as the exclusivity period for the deal has expired.
This failed transaction is a setback for ChatGPT maker OpenAI, at a time when the generative AI startup is experiencing talent poaching from competitors like Meta.
An OpenAI spokesperson confirmed to Fortune that the exclusivity period for the $3 billion acquisition deal with Windsurf in May has expired, allowing Windsurf to freely pursue other options.
