On July 30, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that a Canadian was sentenced to one year in prison yesterday for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft.
According to court documents, 22-year-old Cameron Albert Redman devised a plan to steal Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) by unauthorized access to multiple digital artists' X accounts. His accomplices used these artists' online identities to guide their fans to fraudulent websites, where victims would attempt to claim new NFTs from these digital artists.
Although victims believed they had authorized a transaction to transfer NFTs to their digital wallets, they unknowingly allowed the conspirators to steal cryptocurrencies and Non-Fungible Tokens from their wallets. It is reported that Cameron Albert Redman and his accomplices defrauded over 200 victims, gaining more than $794,000.
