MetaMask Collaborates with Stripe to Launch Stablecoin "MetaMask USD (mmUSD)"
On August 6th, MetaMask is planning to collaborate with Stripe to launch a new stablecoin called "MetaMask USD" (abbreviated as mmUSD). This information was revealed through a governance proposal and is attracting significant attention in the cryptocurrency community.
Notably, although mmUSD will be issued by Stripe, the issuance and clearing payments will be implemented through the "M^0" network - an infrastructure solution specifically supporting off-chain transactions. The integration of mmUSD with the M^0 network promises higher scalability, reduced transaction costs, and optimized processing performance compared to traditional stablecoins.
MetaMask USD is oriented to become a core asset in the MetaMask ecosystem. This stablecoin will be natively integrated into MetaMask's services to support payments, transactions, and various DeFi (decentralized finance) features. The goal is to create a stable currency with flexible application capabilities in multiple real-world use cases on Web3.
However, at present, neither MetaMask nor Stripe has officially confirmed the mmUSD launch plan. Additionally, details related to the stablecoin's structure, specific launch roadmap, or legal factors remain very limited.
MetaMask - the most popular global cryptocurrency wallet - partnering with Stripe - a renowned payment platform - to build their own stablecoin is opening up a potentially promising development direction for integrating traditional finance and Web3. If successfully implemented, mmUSD could become a significant milestone in cryptocurrency popularization and enhancing user experience on decentralized platforms.
