ChatGPT fully integrated into the US government! OpenAI announced late last night (6th) that it has established a new partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA) and launched a transformative program: OpenAI's flagship product, ChatGPT Enterprise, is expected to be available to all US federal executive department employees next year, with participating federal agencies able to use OpenAI's leading AI models through ChatGPT Enterprise for a symbolic fee of just 1 dollar.
The Policy Equation Behind One Dollar
OpenAI noted in its announcement that this collaboration will help Trump realize his "AI Government" plan. By using the AI tools provided by OpenAI to the federal government, government staff will be able to reduce time spent on bureaucratic and paperwork tasks, and instead spend more time on their public service work, serving the American people.
OpenAI further pointed out that pilot results have already provided examples. After implementing AI, the Pennsylvania government found that employees can save approximately 95 minutes per day; meanwhile, a 12-week experiment by the North Carolina Department of Finance showed that 85% of participants can save 30 to 60 minutes daily on tasks such as drafting documents, translating technical documents, and summarizing legal provisions. OpenAI stated directly:
Whether managing complex budgets, analyzing national security threats, or handling daily operations in the public sector, all public servants should have access to the most advanced technology.
What Services Will OpenAI Provide?
First, as part of this plan, OpenAI will open general access to ChatGPT Enterprise. All participating US federal agencies can access OpenAI's advanced models through ChatGPT Enterprise, and within an additional 60-day period, OpenAI will also provide unlimited use of advanced models and features, such as in-depth research and advanced voice modes.
Second, to help federal employees use AI, OpenAI has established a dedicated government user community and will provide customized onboarding training through OpenAI Academy.
Additionally, OpenAI noted that ChatGPT Enterprise no longer uses commercial data to train or improve OpenAI models, and the same safeguards will be incorporated into federal government use. The General Services Administration (GSA) has formally issued a Usage Authorization (ATU) for ChatGPT Enterprise.
Opportunities, Transformation, and Follow-up Questions
This collaboration between the US government and OpenAI demonstrates that AI's penetration into government workflows is inevitable. If AI can be used properly, this case will not only comprehensively reform the efficiency and processes of the US government but also potentially trigger a follow-up wave in global public sectors.
OpenAI and the US government are jointly demonstrating possible scenarios for AI governance. In the coming year, the efficiency curve and risk management capabilities of US federal agencies will be key indicators of whether this "AI revolution" is truly successful.
