ChatGPT maintained its top position, but Google significantly narrowed the gap through its multi-product matrix strategy. Its general-purpose assistant, Gemini, received approximately 12% of ChatGPT's web traffic, ranking second. Chinese AI products performed strongly in the global market, with Alibaba's Quark AI assistant rising to 9th place on the web, and ByteDance's Doubao ranking 12th.
The global landscape of AI consumer applications is becoming more stable, but competition among the top players is becoming increasingly fierce.
The latest list of the world's top 100 generative AI consumer applications shows that ChatGPT continues to hold the top spot, but Google has significantly narrowed the gap through its multi-product matrix strategy. Its general assistant Gemini received about 12% of ChatGPT's visits on the web, ranking second.
Chinese AI products performed strongly in the global market, with Alibaba's Quark AI Assistant rising to 9th place on the web and ByteDance's Doubao ranking 12th. The rankings show that of the 50 web apps, three primarily serving Chinese users made the top 20, while seven Chinese-developed products were primarily aimed at overseas markets.
For the first time, Google occupied four spots on the list as a standalone domain, demonstrating the effectiveness of its matrixed AI product portfolio. In addition to Gemini, developer-focused AI Studio entered the top 10 for the first time, while academic research tool NotebookLM ranked 13th, and AI experimentation platform Google Labs came in 39th.
Competition on mobile platforms is even more intense, with Gemini boasting nearly half the number of monthly active users of ChatGPT. Grok Assistant on the X platform has performed exceptionally well, rapidly accumulating over 20 million monthly active users from zero at the end of 2024, ranking 23rd on mobile platforms. Chinese-developed mobile apps dominate the list, with an estimated 22 of the 50 apps developed by Chinese teams.

Google's multi-product matrix made the list independently for the first time
By separating domain names, Google enabled its AI products to be independently tracked and ranked for the first time. Gemini ranked second on the web, with approximately 12% of ChatGPT's traffic. Its monthly active users on mobile devices were nearly half of ChatGPT's, demonstrating strong growth momentum.
AI Studio, a developer-focused sandbox platform that supports building Gemini multimodal model applications, made it into the top 10. NotebookLM, after its separation from Google Labs, ranked 13th. This academic research tool has seen steady growth over the past year, with only a slight dip during the summer when academic users dwindled.
Google Labs ranked 39th. The platform hosts several AI experimental projects, including the video model Veo 3 and the clothing fitting app Doppl. Data shows that after the release of Veo 3, Google Labs traffic surged by over 13%, marking the largest monthly increase in the past year.
02
The globalization of China's AI products has significantly increased
Among the products that mainly serve Chinese users, Alibaba's Quark ranked 9th, ByteDance's Doubao ranked 12th, and Dark Side of the Moon Kimi ranked 17th. More than 75% of the traffic for these products comes from China.
Even more noteworthy is the globalization trend of Chinese-developed products. According to statistics, seven Chinese-developed AI products primarily serve overseas markets, including video generation models like DeepSeek, Conch, and Keling, as well as the SeaArt image generation tool.
The advantage of Chinese products on the mobile side is even more pronounced. An estimated 22 of the top 50 mobile apps were developed by Chinese teams, but only three primarily serve the Chinese market. Meitu contributed five apps, and ByteDance launched four, demonstrating strong capabilities in mobile AI product development.
03
Competition for universal assistants is heating up
While ChatGPT maintains its lead, competitors are rapidly closing the gap. Grok, a platform from X, has performed particularly well on mobile. Starting from zero at the end of 2024, it now boasts over 20 million monthly active users. Grok saw a nearly 40% surge in mobile usage following the release of its new model, Grok 4, in July. The introduction of the anime character Ani further fueled user growth.
Meta's AI assistant saw relatively modest growth, ranking only 46th on the web and failing to crack the top 50 on mobile. The product saw slow growth after its launch in late May, and user confidence was further dampened in June when users discovered that some of their conversations were appearing in public news feeds.
DeepSeek has declined after reaching its peak in February, Perplexity has maintained strong growth momentum on all platforms, and Claude has continued to grow on the web side but has slowed down on the mobile side.

“Atmosphere programming” becomes an emerging growth point
AI-assisted programming tools are becoming a new growth area. After only Bolt made the list in March, both Lovable and Replit have successfully entered the main list, with Lovable jumping to 22nd place, demonstrating the rapid rise of the AI application generation field.
User retention data suggests this trend isn't a flash in the pan. Consumer Edge's credit card dashboard shows that the US user base of a leading "atmosphere programming" platform has a revenue retention rate exceeding 100% within a few months of registration, indicating that users are not only staying but also expanding their usage.
These platforms also drive growth for related infrastructure products. Database service provider Supabase's traffic growth has nearly synchronized with that of the core atmospheric programming platform, with growth over the past nine months significantly accelerating compared to previous years. Websites built and published through Replit and Lovable contribute significant traffic to their respective platforms, demonstrating the platform ecosystem's impact.
