indeed good thing we have a way to allow nodes to delete block data (keeping the block headers which commit to the txn merkle root), yet still allow those nodes to help others sync w/o centralized coordination:

pruned a great, they enable node operators to delete old blocks after D/L, saving hundreds of GBs of disk space
if they need deleted txns, they can verify the authenticity via block header merkle inclusion proofs
however as they delete block data, they can't serve them to new
