According to PANews on October 11 , citing Gelonghui , a Deloitte study said that about 25% of Bitcoin in circulation is at risk of being attacked by quantum computers . If these Bitcoins are not transferred to quantum-resistant addresses in time before powerful quantum computers come into operation, the damage could amount to hundreds of billions, even trillions of dollars .
Charles Edwards , founder of digital asset management firm Capriole Investment and a longtime Bitcoin supporter, warned that the threat from quantum computing is much closer than the public thinks . He called on the community to build defenses before 2026 to protect the Bitcoin network.
Edwards believes some investors are deliberately XEM this risk in order to maintain optimism, but he warns that if they fall behind in the quantum technology race, Bitcoin's value could collapse completely to zero .
