Steak ’n Shake halted an X poll asking whether it should accept ETH payments after a wave of criticism from Bitcoin maximalists, posting: “Poll suspended. Our allegiance is with Bitcoiners. You have spoken. Who even allowed this? I’m back at my desk. — Steaktoshi.”
The move follows the chain’s earlier announcement exploring ETH acceptance and promising to “abide by the results of this poll.” Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded in support, calling the suspension “a good decision” and praising businesses that prioritize conviction over broad appeal: “Not every business should be trying to appeal to many customers as possible in the name of ‘not being maximalist’. We need the stubborn ones who believe in their cause and their tribe and see their work as a labor of love to it.”
