[October 13, 2025] Nxt, the classic blockchain platform developed by the Jeluida team, officially released its final mainnet version – Nxt v1.13.1. This update is not just a routine software release, but a historic turning point, signifying that Nxt will officially enter the voting phase for migrating to a subchain of the Ardor ecosystem through an on-chain forger voting mechanism.
This will be the most important structural change for Nxt in 12 years since its launch in November 2013, marking the beginning of its new journey "from an independent chain to ecosystem integration".

A historical peak and its legacy
Nxt is the first public blockchain in history built entirely on the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) mechanism. Since its launch in 2013, it has been running stably for more than 5.8 million blocks and has processed more than 3.2 million transactions.
It pioneered several innovative features, such as an asset trading platform, an alias system, decentralized voting and currency systems, and had already formed a mature on-chain module structure before smart features became mainstream.
However, with industry evolution and the emergence of new platforms (including Ardor, launched by the same team), Nxt gradually moved from the forefront to a more stable phase. Since 2022, its code has become largely stable, and large-scale feature updates have ceased.
This leads to "aging" issues such as decreased Nxt liquidity, reduced exchange support, and a smaller number of running nodes.
Nxt v1.13.1: Technical voting begins, determining the future direction.
The most critical update in Jeluida version 1.13.1 is the introduction of a migration voting mechanism (forgers voting). This mechanism allows nodes that actually participate in forging blocks to jointly decide whether to support a migration through an on-chain hard fork.
Upgraded nodes will begin generating version 4 blocks during the voting phase, while remaining compatible with the old version 3 blocks; non-upgraded nodes will continue to support only version 3 blocks, thus forming a dual-chain parallel operation.
The system will automatically select the chain with higher difficulty as the "main chain" to determine whether the migration is approved.
Why migrate? Why choose Ardor?
This migration is not the "end," but rather an effort to integrate Nxt into the Ardor multi-chain ecosystem, leveraging the unified security mechanisms and functional platforms of the Ardor mainchain to achieve sustainable development.
After migration, Nxt will gain the following advantages:
- Shared security with the Ardor mainchain, no longer relying on the increasingly scarce Nxt forgers;
- Fully integrates Ardor's functionalities, including asset trading, data cloud, currency system, decentralized voting, etc.
- Nxt trading and circulation are achieved through a decentralized exchange (DEX) on the Ardor blockchain;
- Preserving the historical legacy of fair distribution, it continues to serve as a model of decentralization in the public blockchain ecosystem;
Ardor itself will also benefit from this migration, being incorporated into a long-established, community-based subchain, injecting new vitality into the ecosystem.
Which will be migrated? Which will not?
The migration includes:
• Nxt account balance (transferred 1:1 to the new subchain);
• Alias system;
• Names and codes in the monetary system (excluding balances);
Content that will not be migrated includes:
• Assets (because Ardor assets are global);
• Account attributes and control fields;
Historical messages, cloud data content, market orders, voting data, etc.
After the main chain stops producing blocks, Jeluida will retain some nodes as historical archive nodes to ensure that users can still query old chain transaction records and data.
In closing: A tribute, and also a restart.
Nxt v1.13.1 is the 160th and final software version of Nxt since its inception.
In the announcement, Jelurida stated, "Thank you to the community for your support and companionship over the past 12 years. This was not an easy decision, but we firmly believe that this is not the end, but a crucial step towards the future. See you on Ardor."
About Nxt: Nxt is the world's first pure PoS public blockchain project, launched in 2013. It pioneered several "firsts" in blockchain platforms, including a built-in asset system, alias system, and token module, and served as the inspiration for many subsequent projects.
About Ardor: Ardor is a multi-chain blockchain platform launched by Jeluida in 2018. It adopts a main chain + sub-chain architecture, which combines scalability and modularity, and has been applied in many industries.
About Jelurida: Jelurida is a technology company focused on the development of blockchain underlying platforms. It has extensive experience in public chain architecture and is committed to promoting the innovation and commercialization of multi-chain ecosystems.
