Layer-2 Base has announced the launch of a direct bridge to Solana, using Chainlink's CCIP technology, connecting the two largest blockchain ecosystems today.
Layer-2 Base Launches Bridge to Solana, Using Chainlink CCIP Technology
On December 5, Layer-2 Base officially launched a bridge with Solana , using Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) technology. This move is expected to bridge the gap between the two blockchains and significantly expand interoperability and liquidation for users and developers.

Connection between EVM and non-EVM
- According to the official announcement, layer-2 Base has officially deployed a direct bridge with Solana. This bridge is secured by Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), one of the most secure cross-chain interoperability protocols today.
- Specifically, the Base– Solana bridge allows users to transfer Solana 's native SPL assets to Base for use in DeFi, Non-Fungible Token, or memecoin applications on the Ethereum ecosystem, and transfer assets from Base to Solana to participate in dApps on Solana.
- With this bridge, developers on Base can support Solana assets directly in their applications, while Base users can trade and use Solana assets directly without leaving Base. Conversely, Solana users can bring their assets to Base to access the huge user base in the Coinbase ecosystem.
- The Base team calls this a strategic step towards the vision of becoming an economy where every asset, every application, and every person can connect, transact, and create value across multiple blockchains, seamlessly and securely.
- This Layer-2 also said that the bridge will be gradually opened to end users in the coming time, starting with the first partners such as Zora, Aerodrome, Virtuals, Flaunch and Relay.
Chainlink CCIP – the “backbone” of the bridge
- In the bridge system between Base and Solana, Chainlink 's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) technology Vai as the core foundation, ensuring the ability to transfer data and assets across chain in a secure, transparent, and reliable manner.
- According to the description from the Base team, CCIP operates as a “backbone” system for all cross-chain interactions, similar to the way Internet Protocol (IP) once connected local networks into the global Internet. With CCIP, Base can connect to Solana directly, which is almost impossible with traditional bridge solutions.
- The new system with verification nodes from Coinbase and Chainlink will operate independently but in parallel to validate every cross- chain transaction. This two-tier mechanism creates a double check that helps prevent fraud, data errors, or bridge mining attacks.
- In addition, CCIP also supports custom data messaging, allowing developers to send not only assets but also transaction data, contracts, or identification information between two blockchains.
- With the implementation of CCIP, Base and Solana not only connect at the asset level, but also establish a cross- chain data platform, enabling DeFi, Non-Fungible Token, on-chain games, and Web3 applications to operate seamlessly between the two ecosystems.
- From there, this bridge is expected to open up a series of practical applications:
DEXs on Base can list and trade Solana native assets such as SOL, BONK, JTO, or PYTH.
Non-Fungible Token or memecoin projects on Solana can expand to Base to take advantage of the large user community on Base.
DeFi applications can implement Multi-Chain liquidation strategies, allowing users to optimize returns across both networks.
