The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York has officially added Non-Fungible Token to its collection, confirming the acquisition of eight CryptoPunks pieces, marking a significant step in recognizing digital art and blockchain culture at a world-class museum level. The transaction was completed on December 20th, with the specific Non Fungible Tokens being CryptoPunks #4018, #2786, #5616, #5160, #3407, #7178, #74, and #7899.
MoMA's acquisition of CryptoPunks is XEM as an iconic milestone by the art world and the cryptocurrency community, as CryptoPunks is not only a popular Non-Fungible Token collector's item but was also once considered one of the foundational projects that laid the first bricks for the global Non-Fungible Token wave.
Created in 2017 by Larva Labs, CryptoPunks consists of 10,000 randomly generated pixel art characters on the Ethereum blockchain, initially released for free before becoming digital assets worth hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars during the Non-Fungible Token boom.
