The breakdown in left vs right discussion happens when someone on the left reads this and immediately thinks it an anti-LGBT statement. It’s not. The right doesn’t want people to be hired for “The first” or because of optics or certain virtue signals. They want the best person to get the job. If someone happens to be gay, etc. it doesn’t matter if it’s a SECONDARY factor and not the primary reason why they got the job. That’s what bothers people. It’s not any phobia or “ist” like many would like to make it out to be. It’s frustration with random optics taking precedent over actual fundamental factors.
