FT REVEALS CHRISTINE LAGARDE'S TRUE EARNINGS Christine Lagarde’s true pay far exceeds her disclosed salary, per a Financial Times analysis. The European Central Bank president earned ~€726,000 in 2024, about 56% above her €466,000 “basic” salary. That basic salary alone makes Lagarde the best paid official in the EU. Ursula von der Leyen’s basic pay is 21% lower. On top of that, Lagarde receives ~€135,000 in fringe benefits for housing and related costs, plus ~€125,000 for serving on the board of the Bank for International Settlements. Her total pay is nearly 4x that of US Fed chair Jerome Powell, whose salary is capped by law at $203,000 (€173,000).
