On January 8, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin published an article discussing Ethereum's scalability, arguing that increasing bandwidth is safer than reducing latency. He believes that using PeerDAS and ZKPs can achieve thousands of times the scaling while maintaining decentralization, whereas latency is limited by factors such as the speed of light, node location, censorship resistance, and economic feasibility.
Vitalik emphasized that Ethereum should be as reliable as a "world heartbeat," not a high-speed game server. Applications requiring faster speeds should utilize off-chain components, which is one reason why layer-2 networks will continue to function even in highly scalable Ethereum.
