Philippine police rescued a kidnapped Chinese citizen; approximately $400,000 in cryptocurrency was forcibly transferred from the victim's possession.

Police in Pasay City, Philippines, rescued a Chinese citizen who had been kidnapped by fellow countrymen from an apartment on January 16 and arrested two suspects. Four suspects entered the victim's residence on Thursday and demanded $1 million by threatening him with knives. Odaily his unlawful detention, the victim was forced to transfer approximately $400,000 to the suspects via cryptocurrency and pay an additional $14,000. Police found duct tape, knives, handcuffs, and a syringe suspected of being used for intimidation at the scene. According to police investigations, one of the suspects had previously been involved in kidnappings for ransom. Two suspects remain at large, while those arrested will face charges of kidnapping and aggravated unlawful detention.
