With the booming development of the open-source project OpenClaw, founder Peter Steinberger has joined OpenAI. Meta's Chinese AI startup recently launched Manus Agents , also focusing on personal agent services that can be directly operated within messaging apps. The product initially integrates with Telegram, emphasizing that it requires no server setup, token, or configuration files; activation is as simple as scanning a QR code. It is open to all subscription tiers and will expand to more chat platforms in the future, directly competing with OpenClaw, a representative of the open-source camp.
With agents entering chat scenarios, lowering the barrier to entry is key.
Manus states that while the concept of "AI Agents in Chat" has existed for some time, most solutions require command-line operations, API settings, or continuous maintenance, making them difficult for general users to use in the long term. The core design goal of Manus Agents is to allow users to activate full agent capabilities with a single message in existing communication scenarios, without having to worry about the underlying deployment and operation.
Users can connect to Telegram in about a minute simply by opening the Agents page in the Manus workspace and scanning the QR code. The entire process requires no server setup, token configuration, or configuration files, significantly lowering the barrier to entry for personal agents.
Full proxy capabilities, not just a chat plugin.
The official statement emphasizes that Manus Agents are not simply chatbots, but rather an extension of the complete Manus system into conversational scenarios. Its core capabilities include:
- Multi-step task execution: Research, data processing, report generation, and PDF output can be initiated within the dialog box.
- Multimodal input: Supports voice, images, and files; uploaded data can be directly analyzed and results generated.
- Personalized response style: can be set to concise, structured, or conversational output.
Manus offers two modes: 1.6 Max (deep reasoning) and 1.6 Lite (high-speed tasks). Technically, the Max version is optimized for complex reasoning and creative tasks, while the Lite version is suitable for everyday work scenarios such as summarizing and quick queries.
Workflow automation becomes the main application scenario
Manus's case studies show that its target market is knowledge workers and personal productivity scenarios, such as:
- Set up automatic weekly email and meeting preparation summaries
- Upload photos to generate personal avatars in different styles
- Generate marketing video scripts and visual concepts based on product images.
In addition, users can also create tasks or trigger automated processes directly via voice, making the Agent a long-term personal assistant rather than a one-off question-and-answer tool.
Emphasizing privacy and task isolation
Regarding user data security, Manus stated that the Agent can only read content sent directly by users in private chats and cannot access other Telegram conversations, groups, or contact information. Furthermore, a single request can coordinate multiple subtasks in the background, including research, program execution, and document generation, and complete delivery within the same conversation thread.
