The founder of Polygon bet $85 million to compete with OpenAI. Not with a better chatbot. With a completely different model of ownership. One where 700,000 people already control the AI, and 65% of the token supply goes to the community. The project is called @SentientAGI. The token is live. And most people still don't understand what it actually does. // The team and the money behind it @sandeepnailwal co-founded Polygon, one of the most widely used blockchains in the world. He also created CryptoRelief, which raised over $400 million for COVID relief in India. Now he's building Sentient. His co-founder @hstyagi is a professor at Princeton. He leads research and incentive design at Sentient, and has published peer-reviewed papers on the core technology behind the project. He spoke at Token2049 Dubai on "Building Open AGI Loyal to Humanity" and met with Jensen Huang and Yann LeCun during the early stages of the project. The $85 million seed round was led by @foundersfund (Peter Thiel) and @PanteraCapital, with participation from @hiFramework and @hack_vc. @PanteraCapital wrote a full investment thesis, calling Sentient "a decentralized AGI platform that merges the web3 financial incentive layer with AI development." CoinDesk called them an "OpenAI rival." The company was six months old when it closed the round. // The problem no one is solving The biggest AI models in the world are locked behind corporate walls. OpenAI, Google, Anthropic. They decide what the AI can do, what data it trains on, and who benefits from it. Open-source AI exists as an alternative. Meta releases Llama. Mistral releases its models. But open-source has a fatal flaw: there's no business model. If anyone can copy your model for free, there's no incentive to keep building it. This is the gap Sentient is trying to close. // The innovation Loyal AI Sentient built the OML protocol. It stands for Open, Monetizable, and Loyal. The idea is simple but powerful. An AI model can be fully open-source, auditable, and community-owned, but it can also be "loyal" to the people who built it. Loyalty means the model's value flows back to its creators and community, not to whoever copies it first. This is backed by a peer-reviewed academic paper (IACR ePrint 2024/1573, cited 5 times). It's not a whitepaper promise. It's published research from a Princeton professor. No other project in crypto or AI has this. // The GRID and Dobby The GRID is Sentient's infrastructure layer. Think of it as an app store for AI agents. Developers build specialized agents, plug them into the GRID, and the system orchestrates them to solve complex problems. When you send a query, the GRID splits it, routes it to the right agents, enriches it with tools like search and domain-specific data, and merges the results into one response. The agents perform real tasks: generating code, analyzing wallets, coordinating actions. Dobby is the proof that this works. It's a 70-billion parameter AI model based on Meta's Llama 3.3, but owned and controlled by over 700,000 people. It's the first "Loyal AI" model ever built. It powers Sentient Chat, which has multiple modes including a Crypto Mode that's already in beta. Dobby launched virally at the Open AGI Summit during ETH Denver and is available on both Hugging Face and Fireworks AI. // The $SENT token $SENT launched on November 22, 2025 and is now listed on Binance, KuCoin, Kraken, OKX, and MEXC. Current market cap sits around $165 million with a circulating supply of ~7.24 billion tokens. The tokenomics tell the real story: 65.55% of the total supply is allocated to the community. That breaks down to 44% for airdrops, grants, and bounties, 19.55% for ecosystem development, and 2% for initial liquidity. 44% for airdrops alone is one of the highest community allocations in all of crypto. For comparison, most projects allocate 5-15%. The token coordinates everything: compute payments, developer rewards, governance, and the incentive systems that power the GRID. // Where Sentient fits in the market The AI x crypto space is crowded. Bittensor focuses on decentralized training and inference. The ASI Alliance (@Fetch_ai + @SingularityNET + @oceanprotocol) focuses on autonomous agents and data. These are infrastructure plays. Sentient is an ownership play. It's not asking "how do we decentralize AI compute?" It's asking "who should own AGI?" That's a fundamentally different question, and it's the one that matters most as AI becomes more powerful. The OML protocol is the only solution in crypto that makes open-source AI economically viable without sacrificing openness. @cryptocom just bet $70 million on AI agents. The convergence of AI and crypto is the dominant narrative of 2026. Sentient is positioned at the exact center of it. // What you can do right now The ambassador program is live and the airdrop registration portal is open. Here's how to position yourself: - Use Sentient Chat at http:/chat.sentient.xyz. Interact with Dobby and other GRID agents. The Crypto Mode is particularly interesting for anyone in this space. - Join the Discord server. Earn OG roles and participate in community activities. Active Discord members are one of the four eligible categories for the airdrop. - Complete Galxe quests. Sentient runs regular campaigns with specific tasks and rewards. - Apply to the Ambassador Program if you have a social media presence (accounts must be 3+ months old with 300+ followers). - If you're a developer, apply to the Builder Program at http:/sentient.xyz/builder-pro... You can build your own agents and launch them on Sentient Chat with access to millions of users. - Connect everything through the official registration portal: wallet, Sentient Chat account, Discord, and X account. // What could go wrong Building AGI is the hardest problem in technology. Sentient is competing with companies that have tens of billions of dollars and the world's top researchers. The OML protocol is novel but unproven at scale. The token is already live, so the "pre-launch" narrative is gone. Growth from here depends entirely on execution: shipping products, attracting developers, and proving that community-owned AI can actually compete with corporate AI. The market cap is $165 million. If the team delivers, there's significant room to grow. If they don't, the competition will move on without them. Sentient is not a short-term play. It's a bet on the idea that AGI should belong to the people who build it, not the corporations that fund it. The team has the credibility. The funding is there. The technology is published and peer-reviewed. And the community allocation is one of the most generous in crypto history. Whether you're here for the airdrop or the vision, this is a project worth understanding deeply. @SentientAGI @sandeepnailwal @hstyagi @foundersfund @qzxcle @namyura_ @shad_haq_ @RPozaric @vivekkolli @antoniok1406 @oleg_golev @edoardocontente @0xsachi
