On February 19, Hong Kong Legislative Council member Wu Jiezhuang stated on the 78 HOY Info Channel's "Financial CHAT" program that Hong Kong will issue the first batch of stablecoin issuer licenses in March, and hopes that the government will promote the use of cryptocurrencies by all Hong Kong citizens through stablecoin airdrops.
Wu Jiezhuang pointed out that the government's distribution of HK$10,000 in electronic consumption vouchers per person three years ago has significantly popularized electronic payments. He suggested that after stablecoin issuers obtain licenses, the government could airdrop stablecoins to eligible citizens for use by local SMEs in areas such as dining, entertainment, and cinemas. This would enhance Hong Kong's status as a Web3 and digital asset center, achieving the dual goals of stimulating the economy and promoting cryptocurrency adoption. Wu Jiezhuang emphasized that this is not simply a matter of the government handing out money, but rather a multiplier effect achieved through stablecoin consumption vouchers, with administrative costs borne by the licensed companies.
