According to ChainCatcher, citing ABC News, Trump recently stated in an interview that as Iran gets closer to electing its next Supreme Leader, the new leader "will not be able to stay in power for long" if he does not approve the candidate beforehand.
In the interview, he said, "He has to get our approval, and if he doesn't get our approval, he won't stay in office for long. We need to make sure that we don't repeat the same mistakes every 10 years, especially when you don't have a president like me who is uncompromising."
He added, "I don't want people to have to go through the same thing again in five years, and worse, we must never let them have nuclear weapons."
