According to ChainCatcher, citing the New York Times, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated last July that his company's new artificial intelligence model would be released within the next year or so. However, according to three sources familiar with the matter, Zuckerberg seems to be finding it increasingly difficult to meet that deadline.
According to sources, Meta's new-generation "frontier" AI model, developed over several months, failed to reach the level of leading AI models from competitors such as Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic in internal tests testing its reasoning, programming, and writing abilities.
Two sources familiar with the matter revealed that the model, codenamed "Avocado," outperforms Meta's previous AI models, but falls short of the "Gemini 3.0" model launched last November. Therefore, Meta has postponed the release of "Avocado" from this month to at least May.
