xAI will be joining three teams in a week: Mistral co-founder Chaplot will join, spanning both xAI and SpaceX, specializing in Grok model training.

According to 1M AI News , Devendra Singh Chaplot, co-founder of Mistral AI, announced that he has joined xAI and SpaceX, where he will directly participate in the training of Grok's large models and the integration of digital intelligence with physical hardware. Chaplot posted the message on X on March 14, and Musk retweeted and replied, "Welcome to xAI."

Chaplot is a leading figure in the field of embodied AI. During his time at Mistral AI, he directly led the training of core models such as Mistral 7B, Mixtral 8x7B, and Mistral Large, and spearheaded the development of the multimodal model Pixtral 12B. He later became a founding member of Thinking Machines Lab, founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati.

With the addition of Andrew Milich and Jason Ginsberg from the AI programming tool Cursor, xAI has brought in three heavyweight talents within a week, forming a combined strategy of "model-level reconstruction + product-level development."
