According to ChainCatcher, citing NBC News, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessant said: "I think the American people understand that after a 50-day period of temporary price increases—I don't want to be too rigid in the timeframe, but let's just say 50 days—prices will eventually fall back down."

When asked if this meant prices would start to fall after 50 days, Bessant said, "I was just giving an example. I don't know if it will be 30 days, 50 days, or 100 days, but it could bring 50 years of peace in the Middle East and weaken the Iranian regime."
