European cryptocurrency exchange Bitpanda has set out to dominate the tokenized finance market by launching 'Vision Chain,' a blockchain network optimized for the regulatory environment. The strategy is to go beyond being a simple exchange and build a 'regulated blockchain infrastructure' where European institutional funds can actually move.
Vision Chain is a network developed in collaboration with the Vision Web3 Foundation and Optimism (OP), designed to comply with the European Union's cryptocurrency regulation, MiCA. Banks and fintech companies can utilize this network to issue asset tokens and process payments. Its key feature is the minimization of regulatory uncertainty inherent in existing public blockchains.
In particular, while adopting an Ethereum-based Layer 2 structure, this network has introduced a method of processing fees using Euro-pegged stablecoins. By utilizing a stable payment method instead of cryptocurrencies with high price volatility, this structure reduces the burden of accounting and risk management for institutions.
Bitpanda's target market is clear: the tokenization of traditional financial assets such as stocks, bonds, and funds. While tokenization experiments in Europe have so far been decentralized at the level of individual institutions, Vision Chain is an attempt to secure liquidity and scalability by connecting them into a single common infrastructure. The goal is to build an 'on-chain capital market' capable of 24-hour trading and real-time settlement.
This move is considered a turning point for Europe to seize the lead in the global tokenized finance market. While the U.S. still faces significant regulatory uncertainty, Europe has established a relatively clear regulatory framework through MICA. Bitpanda is capitalizing on this gap to secure a new positioning as a 'regulation-friendly public blockchain.'
Ultimately, the key is who can bring institutional funds on-chain first. The tokenization market is shifting from a competition of technology to a battle of the 'combination of regulation and infrastructure.'
