The EU will strengthen cooperation with Japan in technological fields such as artificial intelligence.

According to TechFlow TechFlow, the fourth EU-Japan Digital Partnership Council meeting was held in Brussels on May 5th. The European Commission stated that it will further deepen cooperation with Japan in areas such as data, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, digital infrastructure, and online platforms, encompassing regulation, research, and industry. The communiqué stated that the cooperation intentions reached by the EU and Japan cover several key areas, including data governance, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology. Regarding data governance, the EU plans to jointly establish a "Data Strategy Working Group" with Japan to improve data sharing and promote joint research and innovation. Meanwhile, the EU welcomed Japan's participation in the EU's flagship science project, "Horizon Europe," believing that this will accelerate joint research in digital fields such as artificial intelligence. The communiqué stated that the two sides will launch joint research projects in the field of quantum technology to promote the development of hybrid computing environments and explore the application of quantum technology in materials science, carbon dioxide emission reduction, communication networks, fluid mechanics, and satellite image analysis.
