Nguyen Quoc Nhut, 36 years old, living in Hoa An ward, Cam Le, Da Nang city, after breaking the safe and stealing more than 175 million VND from the ATM, pretended to write a suicide note, set up a suicide scene and then hid.
On the afternoon of March 25, Nhut was prosecuted and detained for property theft.
Since the end of January, when participating in virtual currency trading on Bitmeta 4, he has borrowed many times from family, friends and banks to "follow the game". When he lost about 150 million VND and could no longer pay his debts, Nhut plotted to steal money from ATMs.
On the night of March 19, Nhut went to the University of Danang, 41 Le Duan Street, Hai Chau District, and discovered that there was an ATM on the opposite side. Although Le Duan specialized street in the center of the city is very busy, the ATM is located in a deserted location, hidden behind trees and few people pass by.
Determining that this was the target, Nhat Khai did not act rashly but probed by turning off the aptomat (breaker) in the outer electrical box, standing far away from observing dynamics.

Late the next day, Nhut returned to the ATM, continued to cut the circuit breaker to check. After a few days of learning about the structure of the ATM, around 0:00 on March 23, Nhut turned off the power, put on gloves, and used two crowbars to start breaking this automatic teller machine.
When "touching" the door of the safe inside, used many ways but could not break it, Nhut rode a motorbike 8 km home to get a hand-held cutter...
Having obtained two iron boxes containing money, Nhut brought to the foot of Thuan Phuoc bridge (connecting Hai Chau and Son Tra districts) with stones to smash and take away all 175.3 million dong. Nhat used this money to top up his Bitmeta 4 account, continued trading and lost all.

Around 16:30 on March 23, Nhut rode a motorbike to the scene to investigate the situation and saw that the police were examining and collecting fingerprints. Fearing that being arrested would involve his family, Nhut thought of committing suicide.
At dawn on March 24, Nhut left his suicide note at home, rode his motorbike to the Red Bridge (in Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district), hung his helmet on the railing and tried to jump off the bridge to commit suicide.
According to Nhut's testimony, at this time, seeing two boats fishing in the river, thinking that if he jumped the bridge, people would save him, he created a fake scene of suicide to escape to Ho Chi Minh City to continue living.
On the morning of March 24, from the abandoned motorbike, Hoa Chau Commune Police contacted his family. Relatives at this time also reported that Nhut wrote a suicide note, in which he admitted to breaking an ATM to steal money. The incident was reported to the Hai Chau District Police, where the theft occurred.
The police force extracted security cameras at many locations, quickly determining that Nhut did not commit suicide but took a bus into Ho Chi Minh City. At 6pm on the same day, Nhut was arrested on a bus in Tuy Hoa city, Phu Yen province.
Hai Chau District Police said that in addition to property theft, Nhut was also investigated for property destruction.
